Nigeria’s Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) has disbursed ₦3.817bn (£1.82m) in accrued pension arrears to 30,356 federal retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).
The payout follows a comprehensive Back-End Computation (BEC) review designed to resolve historical calculation errors, underpayments, and uncredited entitlements inherited from defunct government agencies and federal departments.
The disbursements cover verified retirees across three specialized operational divisions:
- Parastatals Pension Department (PaPD): Former workers of state-owned enterprises, energy bodies, and transport agencies.
- Tertiary Education and Health Pension Department (TEHPD): Retired personnel from federal universities, teaching hospitals, and research institutes.
- Defunct and Transferred Agencies Pension Department (DTAPD): Staff from liquidating federal corporations and restructured government agencies.
PTAD Executive Secretary Tolulope Odunaiya noted that the exercise reflects ongoing fiscal efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to clear legacy public sector pension liabilities and improve financial security for senior citizens.
The agency reaffirmed that statutory benefit processing remains free, urging pensioners to utilize its digital verification channels—including the online “I Am Alive” portal—to maintain accurate payroll records.
