Ten Officers Killed, 17 Bandits Neutralised in Kebbi Police Camp Attack

Ten police officers, a vigilante member, and two civilians have been killed after armed bandits launched a dawn attack on a security camp in Makuku, Sakaba Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The assault, which occurred on Monday, 10 August 2026, involved over 200 armed men on motorcycles targeting personnel from the Special Intervention Squad (SIS) and Police Mobile Force (PMF).

Reinforcements from the Nigeria Police Force, supported by units from the Nigerian Army and Nigerian Air Force, engaged the attackers in a gunbattle lasting more than two hours.

According to a statement issued by Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, security forces repelled the assault, neutralising at least 17 bandits and destroying several motorcycles before the remaining attackers fled the scene.

The bodies of the fallen officers have been deposited at a mortuary in Birnin Kebbi pending family notification.

The Inspector-General of Police praised the officers’ gallantry and ordered the immediate deployment of additional security assets across Sakaba and neighbouring areas to prevent further attacks.
