Troops from Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have ambushed members of the Lakurawa militant group in Kebbi State, northwestern Nigeria, disrupting a planned attack on a local village.
Acting on intelligence regarding militant movements toward Ugwan Hassan village in the Dandi Local Government Area, troops established a tactical position along a key crossing point to intercept the group.
According to a military statement, soldiers engaged the militants with heavy gunfire, forcing them to abandon their operation and retreat.
During a search of the area following the clash, troops recovered two motorcycles used for logistics, mobile phones, and tactical communication radios.
Inspectors also recovered a Nigerien identity card belonging to one of the fleeing suspects, tracing his origin to the Tillabéri Region in neighboring Niger Republic.
Military authorities stated that troops are maintaining high-visibility patrols in the area while pursuing the fleeing fighters to secure surrounding communities against further incursions.
