Nigeria’s electoral Commission says four legislative bye-elections held across the country on Saturday have provided vital operational lessons as it builds a roadmap toward the 2027 general election.
Voting took place in four states: Gombe, Kano, Bauchi, and Delta.
Speaking from the National Situation Room at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, said every off-cycle vote serves as an important test for nationwide polls.”We must resist the temptation to view any exercise as merely an ordinary bye-election,”
Amupitan told senior officials monitoring field operations across the states. “Every election allows us to continuously audit our logistics framework, stress-test our technological deployment, and evaluate administrative field readiness.”The polls were held to fill legislative seats in:Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency (Gombe State)Dawakin Kudu State Constituency (Kano State)Sakwa and Disina State Constituencies (Bauchi State)Udu State Constituency (Delta State).
Professor Amupitan added that early administrative and operational challenges encountered ahead of polling day were identified and resolved, reassuring voters that lessons learned would be used to strengthen public confidence and improve efficiency ahead of 2027.
