IDOGUN, ONDO STATE — Armed bandits invaded the Ugbosi area of Idogun in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State in the early hours of Friday, destroying properties and kidnapping a nine-year-old boy.
The attack, which occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. on Friday, June 5, 2026, threw the community into panic as the assailants fired gunshots sporadically, forcing terrified residents to flee their homes into the surrounding bushes and neighbouring villages for safety.
During the raid, the gunmen focused their attack on two residences. They forced their way into the home of a local pastor, Mr. Isaac Olaosebikan. In a desperate bid to escape the violence, Mr. Olaosebikan managed to flee into the nearby bush, but the armed men subsequently abducted his nine-year-old son, identified by police as Master Victor Olaosebikan (initially reported by local sources as Oluwatobi).
A second resident, Mr. Joel Owalekan, also reported that the same gang attacked his home, causing significant structural damage while attempting to break in. Mr. Owalekan similarly managed to escape unharmed by fleeing into the darkness.
The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the incident. Speaking via an official statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abayomi, stated that a joint security team had been deployed immediately.
“Personnel of the command and the Amotekun Corps have been mobilised to the scene and have launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation,” the PPRO said, adding that security operatives are currently combing the surrounding forests and potential escape routes.
The State Commissioner of Police, CP Felix Ohagwu, has directed all tactical teams, intelligence units, and local vigilante groups to intensify efforts to ensure the child is rescued unhurt and the perpetrators are brought to justice. Investigations are ongoing, and relevant exhibits have already been recovered from the scene.
