Abductors of former Nigerian defence spokesperson release video

A video has emerged online showing a retired Nigerian Major General and his wife in captivity, following their abduction in northern Nigeria.

Retired Major General Rabe Abubakar, a former director of defence information, and his wife were seized along the Marabar Musawa–Kafinsoli road in the Matazu local government area of Katsina State.

In the four-minute video circulated on social media, the retired general’s wife is seen listing the demands of their captors.

The abductors are demanding the release of three detained members of their group—identified as Sani, Aminu, and Nasiru—as well as the return of livestock they claim was seized from them. According to her account, two of the men were arrested in Jikamshi, Katsina State, while the third was detained in Kano.

She appealed to the Katsina State government and leaders from five local government areas to comply with the demands to secure their freedom.

Maj-Gen Abubakar also speaks briefly in the footage, calling for efforts to maintain peace. He stated that the abductors have expressed a willingness to engage in dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

Local media reports that a notorious bandit leader, Kachallah Muhammad, who operates in the region, has established contact with the retired general’s family.

Neither the Katsina State government nor local security agencies have, so far, commented on the video.
