Police in New Orleans have taken a 27-year-old man into custody following a domestic attack in which his father was fatally stabbed and his two sisters were injured.
The suspect, identified as Chukwuebuka Eweni, was located and arrested in Jefferson Parish after an incident on Pebble Street on the evening of November 11, 2025.
University Professor Killed
Family members have identified the deceased as Samuel Eweni, a computer science professor at Southern University at New Orleans. The two injured victims were confirmed to be his daughters.
The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) confirmed that officers responded to a call reporting an “aggravated battery by cutting” at a residence in the 8000 block of Pebble Street.
- Victims: Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive adult male who had sustained at least one fatal stab wound, along with two other adult victims who had also been stabbed.
- Condition: The two surviving victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment. Local reports indicate one sister has been released, while the other remains admitted but is expected to recover.
Mental Health History
The incident has been described by relatives as sudden and shocking. They stated that the suspect had a history of mental illness but had not been violent previously.
The NOPD Homicide Section detectives identified Chukwuebuka Eweni as the perpetrator and obtained an arrest warrant on charges including one count of second-degree murder and two counts of attempted second-degree murder.
After his arrest, the police confirmed that Eweni was placed in law enforcement custody and was “undergoing medical evaluation at an area facility.”
