At least 27 people have been killed and 26 injured in two mass shootings hours apart in South Africa.
Eight gunmen opened fire at a tavern near Johannesburg on Saturday evening, killing 17 people—13 men and four women—and injuring 15 before setting two cars on fire and escaping.
Hours later, on Sunday morning, a second shooting outside a venue near Cape Town left 10 people dead and 11 injured, with five dying at the scene and five in hospital.
Police have made no arrests and are yet to establish official motives, though Gauteng Deputy Police Commissioner Maj Gen Fred Kekana suggested the Johannesburg attack may be a gang retaliation linked to a fatal shooting last month.
