Troops operating under Joint Task Force North West, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralized two terrorists—including a notorious ringleader identified as Abbah Alhassan—and arrested two suspects during targeted raids in Katsina State.
Acting on intelligence regarding planned attacks against communities in Matazu and Kankara local government areas, Sector 2 troops raided a terrorist hideout on Tuesday, 15 September 2026.
A gun battle ensued, resulting in the death of Alhassan and another militant, while several others escaped with injuries into nearby bushland.

Items recovered during the clearance operation included:
- Ammunition & Transport: 10 rounds of live ammunition and one motorcycle.
- Operational Gear: Camouflage uniforms, a cutlass, and illicit substances.
In a follow-up operation the same day, security forces arrested two suspected insurgents in the Yantumaki general area of Dan Musa Local Government Area. Preliminary interrogations linked the suspects to another prominent terrorist commander known as Mannori.
Military authorities confirmed the suspects remain in custody as clearance operations continue across the regional theatre to dismantle criminal networks and secure vulnerable rural communities.
