ABUJA — Hundreds of thousands of residents in Nigeria’s central Niger State face a temporary blackout on Wednesday as engineers carry out routine maintenance on critical power infrastructure.
The state-run Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that operations at the Bida 132/33kV Transmission Substation will be paused between 07:00 GMT and 12:00 GMT (08:00 to 13:00 local time).
The scheduled five-hour shutdown is required to allow technical crews to service a 60MVA transformer and its associated switchgear, the company said in a statement.
The maintenance work will temporarily disrupt the supply of electricity to the local distributor, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
Areas affected include:Bida Town and the local Army Barracks; Agaie Town, Agaie district, and Low Cost estate; Rural communities: Doko, Baro, Zago, Emi Rani, Bussu, Laugba Goshigi, Lafiyagi Essa, Amgulu, Mansantali, and Masaga, along with surrounding villages.
TCN apologised for the disruption, stating that power will be restored immediately once the maintenance work is complete.
