A parliamentary candidate contesting for Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has unveiled an electoral platform centred on rent regulation, youth empowerment, and technology-driven urban safety ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Young Ugochukwu, running on the Young Progressive Party (YPP) ticket for the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) and Bwari Federal Constituency, presented his legislative manifesto to the Association of Corporate Online Editors (ACOE) in Abuja on Wednesday.
Addressing journalists at the press briefing, Mr. Ugochukwu outlined key policy priorities aimed at easing the cost of living for residents in the capital, including legislative caps on rising rent costs and agency fees, paired with pro-bono legal support for tenants facing unlawful evictions.
To tackle the rising threat of “one-chance” violent taxi robberies across the territory, the candidate proposed deploying digital tracking technology to help commuters verify and monitor commercial vehicles in real time.
“The people’s agenda is my agenda, and I am contesting this election to make a difference,” Mr Ugochukwu said, pledging to institute mandatory quarterly town hall votes to determine constituency priorities.
A businessman with interests across real estate, hospitality, and logistics who has resided in Abuja for over 15 years, Mr. Ugochukwu said his decision to enter elective politics stems from the need for stronger legislative oversight rather than rubber-stamping executive proposals. He urged voters to reject godfather-led politics and embrace independent candidates.
