A political support group, the Tinubu Media Support Group (TMSG), has described recent comments by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar claiming he is “competing with thieves” as laughable, asserting that his own political record disqualifies him from criticizing others on integrity.
In a joint statement released by TMSG Chairman Emeka Nwankpa and Secretary Dapo Okubanjo, the group accused Atiku of resorting to desperate rhetoric ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
TMSG cited former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s critical assessments of his deputy in his memoir My Watch, alongside a 2010 US Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations report detailing foreign corruption inquiries involving offshore accounts and shell companies linked to the former vice president’s family during his time in office.
The group also highlighted past allegations regarding the management of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and criticized Atiku’s stewardship of the privatization exercise under the National Council on Privatization (NCP).
TMSG concluded that the former vice president carries too much unresolved corruption baggage to level allegations of financial impropriety against the current administration.
