Nigeria Ministry Reaffirms Commitment to Military Veterans’ Pensions

Nigeria’s Ministry of Defence has assured military veterans that the federal government is actively taking steps to address their ongoing welfare concerns, pay adjustments, and pension entitlements.

Speaking during a delegation visit by veterans’ representatives to the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja on Wednesday, 19 August 2026, the Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (Rtd), stated that government agencies are working to ensure a fair and sustainable resolution to the issues raised.

The minister, represented by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Richard Pheelangwah, acknowledged the service and sacrifices of the country’s retired armed forces personnel, emphasizing that their well-being remains a national priority.

According to the ministry, administrative, pension, and financial authorities are currently engaging to compute adjustments in line with official regulatory procedures and funding frameworks.

Addressing the delegation, General Musa appealed for patience and continued dialogue, noting that structured engagement remains the most effective path to resolving outstanding pension claims while maintaining the dignity of former service members.

The ministry added that it will maintain direct communication with veterans’ representatives and provide regular updates as financial and administrative reviews progress.
