Nigerian Troops Repel Terrorist Attack in Katsina State

Troops operating under Sector 2 of Operation Fansan Yamma have repelled an attack by suspected terrorists in the Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, northwestern Nigeria.

The encounter occurred on Monday, 10 August 2026, when soldiers on routine counter-terrorism patrol intercepted a group of armed men at a crossing point in Ruwan Lafiya village.

According to military sources, the troops engaged the assailants with heavy gunfire, forcing them to abandon their position and retreat into nearby cover.

A search of the area following the gunbattle led to the recovery of an abandoned Boxer motorcycle used by the fleeing militants for movement.
