A pro-government political group has described the recent summit of the opposition G100 coalition in Abuja as a failure that demonstrates the opposition’s inability to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Democratic Front (TDF) said the absence of key opposition figures—including African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate Peter Obi—marked a major setback for efforts to field a unified candidate against the ruling party.
TDF Chairman Danjuma Muhammad and Secretary Wale Adedayo argued that the meeting highlighted deep fragmentation, lack of ideological focus, and internal strife within the opposition camp.
“It didn’t come to us as a surprise that Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, who both initiated the famous Ibadan Declaration to persuade other opposition parties to adopt a unified front against President Tinubu, have developed cold feet now that they have emerged as presidential candidates of their respective parties,” the group said.
TDF added that the failure of opposition parties to reach a consensus on a single candidate proves they are in disarray and pose no electoral threat to President Tinubu’s re-election bid.
