In a notable gesture of appreciation and mentorship, Oladele Nihi, the Special Adviser on Youth Affairs and Student Matters to the Kogi State Governor, announced on Monday that he has gifted a plot of land each to two of his former personal assistants. The recipients, Mr. Akinola Oguntomoni and Mr. Solomon Ademola, received the gifts in Lokoja, the state capital, as recognition for their “hard work and dedication.” Both gentlemen had previously served under Mr. Nihi before successfully transitioning into higher professional roles. Mr. Nihi expressed his satisfaction in being able to support their continued personal and career advancement. The move is seen as an embodiment of the “Still Rising” movement, a popular phrase associated with the official, which he insists is “not just a slogan, it’s a movement.” Mr. Nihi also acknowledged his current Personal Assistant, Mr. Jamiu Omeiza (JMO), confirming the continuation of his official support structure.
These kinds of personal acts of generosity by political appointees are often highlighted in Nigeria as examples of grassroots support and leadership development within political circles. Mr. Nihi explicitly attributed the inspiration for his gesture to the leadership of his principal, His Excellency, Ahmed Ododo, the Executive Governor of Kogi State. He described the Governor as his “boss, mentor, and benefactor,” whose style of governance is characterised by “kindness, compassion, and fairness.” This public recognition links the act of benevolence directly to the ethos promoted by the state’s highest office, underscoring a culture of reward for service within the administration.
