Nigerian Military Reports Dozens of Terrorists Killed, 17 Kidnapped Victims Rescued

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian military says its operations across the country have resulted in the deaths of dozens of terrorists and the rescue of 17 kidnapped victims over the past week. The military also reported the recovery of a significant cache of weapons and other materials.

In a press statement signed by Major General Markus Kangye, the Director of Defence Media Operations, the Defence Headquarters detailed a series of operations carried out by various task forces. The statement highlighted that troops had conducted raids, ambushes, and patrols, with the air component also contributing to the elimination of terrorists and the destruction of their camps.

Highlights from the military’s weekly briefing include:

  • North East: Troops in the North East killed scores of terrorists, rescued two kidnap victims, and arrested seven suspected collaborators.
  • North West: In the North West, troops killed an unspecified number of terrorists, arrested four, and rescued five kidnap victims.
  • North Central: Operations in the North Central led to the deaths of several terrorists, the arrest of one criminal, and the rescue of three kidnap victims. Additionally, 12 kidnapped victims were rescued in a separate operation.
  • Other Operations: The military also reported the arrest of four suspected members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in the South East and the foiling of crude oil theft worth over N73 million in the South-South.
