Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) has announced a significant milestone in the Ajaokuta-Kaduna-Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline project, confirming its successful crossing of the River Niger. This achievement significantly boosts hopes for the project’s completion by the fourth quarter of 2025.
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd., Bashir Ojulari, revealed this development during a keynote address at the 24th NOG Energy Week on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He attributed the feat to “effective and innovative contract reengineering and industry collaboration”.
In a further positive development for Nigeria’s energy sector, Ojulari also disclosed that for the first time in a long while, the nation achieved 100% crude oil pipeline availability throughout June 2025. This improved performance, he stated, was a direct result of “industry-wide security interventions led by the NNPC Ltd.,” which helped to boost crude oil production.
Despite these successes, Mr. Ojulari called for increased investments to further enhance crude oil production. He highlighted that NNPC Ltd. has managed to “turn the narrative around” by consistently meeting its cash-call obligations to Joint Venture operations.
The NNPC Ltd. GCEO affirmed that the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA 2021) has positioned NNPC Ltd. to effectively lead the industry in project financing. Looking ahead to future NOG Energy Week conferences, Mr. Ojulari expressed a desire for the event to transition from a “talk shop” to a platform where “performances are celebrated and investment deals closed”.
