Abuja, Nigeria – The Federal Republic of Nigeria has expressed its deep sorrow and offered heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of India following the tragic crash of Air India Flight 171 in Ahmedabad on Thursday, June 12, 2025.
The devastating incident, which reportedly claimed the lives of over 290 individuals, has prompted an outpouring of grief from the global community. Nigeria affirmed its solidarity with India during this period of “immense grief and unfortunate loss.”
Initial reports indicate that no Nigerian citizens were aboard the flight. However, the Nigeria High Commission in New Delhi is maintaining close contact with Indian authorities to verify this information and stands ready to provide consular assistance if required.
In this moment of shared sorrow, Nigeria also reaffirmed its commitment to global aviation safety and supported calls for a thorough investigation into the crash to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its statement by extending commiserations to the families of the bereaved and all those affected by the incident.
