Manchester City Sign Rayan Cherki from Lyon

Manchester, UK – Manchester City have completed the signing of attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki from French club Lyon, securing his services before the first of this summer’s transfer deadlines. The 21-year-old joins on a five-year deal, committing to the club until 2030, with an initial transfer fee reported to be £30.45 million.

Cherki will be eligible to feature for City in the upcoming Club World Cup, which commences in the United States on June 14.

The young Frenchman has already amassed nearly 200 appearances for Lyon since making his senior debut at the age of 16 in October 2019. During his time with the club, he scored 29 goals in 185 matches. He has also earned two caps for the French national team, scoring once.

“This is a dream for me,” Cherki stated. “Honestly, to be joining a club like Manchester City and have the opportunity to make the next step in my career here is something very, very special.”

He added, “I have worked so hard for this all my life. I love this sport, and I can’t wait to develop further here in Manchester with Pep and his backroom staff. The responsibility to help the team continue winning is something I want to embrace. I would only leave Lyon for a project I really believe in and everything at City suggests I can develop my game and help the team be successful in the future.”

Cherki’s arrival marks City’s second significant signing in as many days, following the acquisition of Algerian left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri from Wolves for £31 million on Monday.
