Tema, Ghana – A man, believed to be in his mid-50s, has been found beheaded in the vicinity of the Tema Main Harbour Railways. A man suspected to be mentally challenged has been apprehended in connection with the killing.
The Ghana News Agency reported that the alleged perpetrator, identified as Ali and thought to be in his 30s, severed the head of the victim, who was a caretaker of a local yard. Ali was later seen carrying the head in a bag before being apprehended by authorities.
Police personnel from the Tema Regional Police Command were led by the suspect to the location of the body, which was subsequently taken to the mortuary.
The circumstances leading to the incident are not yet clear. However, squatters in the area expressed shock at the discovery.
One resident, Mr. Isaac Adjei, told the Ghana News Agency that Ali had previously worked carrying cargo around the harbour but had reportedly begun exhibiting signs of mental instability approximately two and a half years ago.
