The Governor of Kogi State in North Central Nigeria, Ahmed Ododo, has expressed his sadness following a fatal road accident in Okunchi, Adavi local government area of the state, which resulted in the deaths of seven people and injuries to several others.
Governor Ododo, who is currently on an official assignment in China, described the loss of life as a significant blow to the community and the state.
He conveyed his concern that the accident had claimed the lives of hardworking individuals who contributed to their families and the local economy. “Our people are known for working round the clock due to the prevailing peace and security that have encouraged people to go about their lawful businesses without fear; but to have their lives cut short by acts of recklessness by other road users calls for concern and I urge all those responsible to prevent a reoccurrence of this unfortunate incident,” Governor Ododo said in a statement.
The Governor commended the chairman of Adavi local government area, Bashiru Okatengwu, for his efforts in mobilising initial responders and emergency assistance to the scene of the accident. He also extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and the people of Adavi local government area for their loss.
Governor Ododo expressed his appreciation for the support provided to the victims and their families by members of the community, highlighting their actions as a demonstration of compassion and unity during a difficult time, which he noted was characteristic of the people of Kogi State.
Furthermore, Governor Ododo called for a review of the emergency healthcare facilities in the area to ensure a more coordinated and effective response to future emergency situations.
