Suspended Nigerian Senator Denies Apology Reports

Abuja – Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who represents Kogi Central and is currently suspended from the Nigerian Senate, has refuted reports that she has apologised to the Senate over the issue leading to her suspension.

In a statement released on Monday, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan described the claims as “false and misleading.” She insisted that her position on the matter remains unchanged.

“The reports suggesting that I have apologised to the Senate and retracted my position are completely untrue,” she stated. “I stand firmly by my words and actions and have not issued any apology to the Senate or anyone regarding this matter.”

The senator criticised those spreading the reports, accusing them of attempting to distort the truth and mislead the public. She reiterated her commitment to defending the rights of her constituents and alleged that some individuals were trying to manipulate public opinion with fabricated statements.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan also expressed concern over what she believes is a deliberate effort to silence her in the National Assembly. “This is not just about me; it is about the integrity of our democracy. I will not be intimidated or forced into submission through false narratives,” she asserted.

She urged the public to disregard the rumours and misinformation, advising that any official statements from her would be communicated through her verified channels.

The senator’s suspension followed a disagreement with the Senate leadership, specifically with Senate President Godswill Akpabio, regarding seating arrangements. 1 She has also accused Senator Akpabio of sexual harassment and has taken her case to local and international media outlets, as well as the United Nations Inter-Parliamentary Union.
