Nigeria Launches Institute for Emerging Technologies

The Nigerian government has begun constructing an institute for emerging technologies in Kano, as part of efforts to drive socio-economic development.

The Sustainable and Emerging Technologies Institute (SETI) will focus on artificial intelligence, robotics, and other cutting-edge technologies. It will be built on 30 hectares of land at Bayero University Kano (BUK).

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, the Executive Vice Chairman of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the institute would produce innovators and entrepreneurs who would make a global impact.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, described the project as “laudable” and a step towards placing Nigeria on the global map of innovation and industrialization.

The institute is expected to promote collaboration between government, academia, and industry, and provide training and resources for young Nigerians to develop innovative solutions.

The project is part of the Nigerian government’s efforts to drive economic growth and development through science and technology.
