Trump Suggests Jordan and Egypt Take in Gaza Palestinians

US President Donald Trump has sparked controversy by suggesting that Egypt and Jordan should take in Palestinians from Gaza, which he described as a “demolition site”. In a phone call with Jordan’s King Abdullah, Trump expressed his desire for Jordan to “take on more” Palestinians, citing the dire situation in Gaza.

Trump plans to make a similar request to Egypt’s president, with the proposal potentially being temporary or long-term. However, Hamas has already vowed to oppose the move, and Palestinians in Gaza are likely to be outraged by the suggestion.

Bassem Naim, a member of the Hamas political bureau, emphasized that Palestinians in Gaza have endured immense suffering for 15 months and will not accept any proposals that involve leaving their ancestral homeland. “Our peopleā€¦ will also thwart such projects,” he added.

The situation in Gaza is indeed dire, with most of its two million residents displaced due to the 15-month war with Israel. The United Nations estimates that 60% of structures across Gaza have been damaged or destroyed, with rebuilding efforts potentially taking decades
