TMV applauds disbursement of ₦13.87bn pension arrears to 18,822 retirees

ABUJA — The Tinubu Media Volunteers (TMV) has commended the federal government’s disbursement of ₦13.87 billion in pension increment arrears to 18,822 retirees under the Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS).

In a statement signed by Chairman Chukwudi Enekwechi and Secretary Segun Ogedengbe, the group noted that the funds cover outstanding entitlements extending through to October 2026.

The payment encompasses arrears stemming from the 13.8% and 20.55% pension increments approved by President Bola Tinubu, as well as retroactive adjustments dating back to 2021 for former workers of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) and five other legacy federal agencies.

Commitment to retiree welfare

TMV highlighted that the 22-month increments—authorized by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission—represent a vital intervention to correct long-standing pension administration anomalies and uplift the living standards of retirees and their dependents.

“We acknowledge that under the Tinubu administration there is a commitment to efficient pension administration, timely payment of entitlements and continuous improvement in the welfare of the pensioners under the Defined Benefit Scheme,” the group stated.

The volunteers added that the targeted payout serves as further proof of the administration’s dedication to restoring dignity and financial security to senior citizens who spent their productive years in national service.
