Power restored to Lagos after rainstorm trips major 330kV transmission lines

Bulk electricity supply has been fully restored to Lagos State following a temporary outage triggered by a severe rainstorm on Tuesday evening.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) reported that the power disruption occurred at 4:59 PM after heavy lightning strikes tripped the Olorunsogo–Ikeja West and Benin–Egbin 330-kilovolt transmission lines.

TCN engineers initiated emergency restoration procedures, bringing power back to the Ikeja West Transmission Substation by 5:28 PM via an alternative 330kV line from Omotosho.

By 7:27 PM, bulk power supply was fully restored to all affected injection substations feeding the Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution networks.

The state-owned grid operator reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining infrastructure resilience and ensuring reliable nationwide power transmission during seasonal weather events.
