TCN announces planned power outage in parts of Abuja for station maintenance

Parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, will experience a temporary power disruption on Wednesday to allow maintenance teams to conduct scheduled servicing on critical grid infrastructure.

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that engineers will carry out annual preventive maintenance on a 100MVA power transformer and associated switchgear at the 132/33kV Katampe 1 transmission substation between 09:00 and 16:00 WAT on 28 October 2026.

As a result, the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) will be unable to draw electricity from the facility to supply consumers in Wuse II, Maitama, Life Camp, and surrounding neighborhoods during the seven-hour maintenance window.

“TCN apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause electricity customers in the affected areas,” the grid management said in a statement released on Tuesday, reassuring residents that full supply will resume upon completion of the works.
