Electricity supply has been fully restored to several communities and industrial hubs in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, following a major blackout lasting nearly 40 hours.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed that bulk power supply was re-established through the Kukwaba 132kV Transmission Substation at 16:16 local time on Thursday. The outage originally began early on Wednesday morning, at 00:24 local time, following a trip on a key 33kV feeder line. According to power officials, efforts to bring the grid back online were delayed by a faulty line circuit breaker. Engineers eventually resolved the crisis by rerouting power through an alternative feeder line, allowing electricity to flow back into distribution networks managed by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC).
The restoration brings relief to thousands of residents and business owners across affected areas, including Idu, Kuchigoro Community, Saburi, and several residential estates. Key commercial facilities, including rice and plastic processing factories in the region, were also affected by the prolonged shutdown.
In a statement, TCN management expressed appreciation to impacted customers for their “patience and understanding” while engineers worked to clear the fault.
