Engineers in north-western Nigeria have cleared a collapsed electricity tower and begun deploying emergency infrastructure to restore power along a vital high-voltage transmission route.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) confirmed on Wednesday that workers have fully dismantled tower T367 along the 330kV Kainji–Birnin Kebbi line near Yauri, Kebbi State, following its recent collapse. Technical teams have aligned and secured the displaced conductors and skywires in preparation for the next phase of repairs. An Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower—a temporary structure designed to bypass damaged infrastructure—has arrived on site and is awaiting erection. Once installed, engineers will string cables to reconnect the line and resume bulk power supply to affected areas.”Our engineers and technical personnel remain actively engaged at the site and are working hard to ensure a quick completion,” the state-owned grid operator said in a statement.
The Kainji–Birnin Kebbi line is a critical artery in Nigeria’s electricity grid, carrying high-voltage power from the Kainji hydroelectric dam northwards.
TCN offered no timeline for the completion of the work but assured affected consumers that efforts are being accelerated to fully restore grid stability.
