Parts of Nigeria’s capital, Abuja, will experience a temporary loss of electricity on Wednesday as engineers carry out routine maintenance on critical power infrastructure.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that its technical crew will undertake scheduled preventive work on a 100MVA power transformer and associated switchgear at the Central Area 132/33kV transmission substation.
The exercise is set to run for six hours, from 10:00 to 16:00 local time (09:00 to 15:00 GMT) on 23 September. As a result, the regional distributor, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), will be unable to supply electricity to several key commercial and residential districts during the maintenance window.
The areas affected include:Wuse Zones 1–7Central Business District, Utako and Jabi districts, along with surrounding areas and the Sheraton Hotel complex
In a statement, TCN management apologised to affected consumers for the disruption, emphasizing that the routine checks are necessary to maintain the reliability of the grid.
Power is expected to be restored shortly after the completion of the work on Wednesday afternoon.
