Nigerian troops operating under Operation Fansan Yamma have rescued seven abducted individuals, including six female students from the Federal University, Dutsin-Ma, following an ambush in Katsina State.
The rescue occurred on the evening of Monday, 21 September, along the Dayi–Malumfashi road in the Danmusa Local Government Area.
According to military authorities, troops from Sector 2 responded swiftly to a distress call reporting an attack by gunmen on a commercial vehicle travelling from Kaduna to Katsina.
The prompt arrival of security forces forced the assailants to abandon their captives and flee into surrounding bushes.
Military officials confirmed that all seven captives—comprising six undergraduate students and the male commercial driver—were rescued unhurt.
Key details of the operation include:
- Swift Security Response: Troops intercepted the targeted commercial vehicle along the Dayi–Malumfashi highway following real-time distress reports.
- Victim Profiling & Health Check: The rescued students and driver underwent preliminary security profiling and medical evaluations to confirm their health status.
- Handover & Reunification: Security personnel initiated protocols to safely return the students to university authorities and reunite all victims with their families.
Operation Fansan Yamma remains the primary Joint Task Force operation tasked with clearing bandit enclaves and securing major transit corridors across Nigeria’s North-West region.
