The Nigerian military has launched a manhunt for a high-profile suspect known by the alias “Gentle The Yahoo”, offering a 30 million naira ($20,000; £15,000) reward for information leading to his arrest.
The Joint Task Force in the South East, operating under the code name Operation UDO KA, declared Ifeanyi Eze Okorienta wanted on Sunday, describing him as a significant threat to peace and security in the region. In a wanted notice widely circulated by security forces, authorities urged members of the public to assist in locating Mr. Okorienta while warning them not to approach him directly. The poster features a prominent photograph of the suspect alongside the campaign slogan: “No Violence, No Criminality in the South East.””Give peace a chance,” the task force said in a statement, calling on local residents to support ongoing efforts to curb rising violence and criminal enterprise across the area. Two dedicated hotlines—including a shortcode, 193—have been established for the public to submit confidential tips.
The South-East region of Nigeria has faced heightened security operations in recent months as federal forces intensify crackdowns on violent armed groups and organized crime syndicates. Military officials assured the public that all information provided would remain strictly anonymous.
