ABUJA — Power supply has been fully restored across parts of Nigeria’s capital city following an emergency planned outage to carry out maintenance on critical high-voltage transmission lines, the country’s grid operator said on Sunday.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced that engineers successfully completed specialized repair work along the 132/33kV Apo Transmission Substation circuit, bringing electricity back online at 4:08 p.m. local time on Sunday, 6 September.
The shutdown was implemented to allow engineering crews to address a fault affecting Apo Lines 1 and 2 between transmission towers T130 and T132. Technical teams successfully executed “OPGW latching”—a procedure involving the optical ground wire system that protects high-voltage lines and carries telecom signals—enabling the safe re-energization of the grid.
The Apo substation serves as a crucial power distribution node for key residential, commercial, and government districts across Abuja.
In a statement signed by its management, TCN thanked affected consumers for their patience during the disruption and reiterated its commitment to stabilizing the national grid to prevent future system failures.
