Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a loan deal to sign Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush, with an obligation to make the transfer permanent for £60 million next summer.
The 27-year-old Egyptian international moves to north London after struggling to secure regular starting spots at Manchester City following his £59 million move from Eintracht Frankfurt in January 2025.
Struggles at the Etihad
Despite high expectations following a standout spell in the Bundesliga, Marmoush found himself primarily backing up Erling Haaland:
- Diminished Minutes: The Egyptian completed the 2025–26 Premier League campaign with just eight starts, recording three goals and three assists across approximately 700 minutes of league action.
- Overall Record: Marmoush leaves City having scored 16 goals in 62 total appearances, with eight of those strikes coming across 36 games last season.
- Peripheral Role: After featuring off the bench in City’s recent 3-0 Community Shield loss to Arsenal, he was an unused substitute in their Premier League opener against Bournemouth.
Where He Fits in De Zerbi’s Squad
The move gives Tottenham manager Roberto De Zerbi a versatile attacking option capable of operating across the entire frontline:
- Tactical Flexibility: While naturally a centre-forward, Marmoush spent time at Frankfurt and City playing as a second striker and cutting in from the left wing.
- Squad Support: His arrival provides crucial cover, with Dominic Solanke managing ongoing injury concerns and Richarlison entering the final year of his contract.
The £60m commitment pushes Spurs’ summer spending past £312 million following earlier high-profile arrivals—including winger Savinho from Manchester City—as the club seeks to re-establish itself among Europe’s elite.
