Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered firearms, ammunition, and key intelligence materials during a targeted night patrol in Zamfara State.
The intelligence-led operation was executed at approximately 1:50 a.m. on Tuesday, 25 August 2026, by troops operating out of the forward operating base in Kaura Namoda.
Key Details of the Interception
The raid forms part of ongoing military offensives aimed at curbing criminal operations and restricting bandit movement across vulnerable communities in the region:
- Suspects Detained: The troops intercepted two suspects, identified as 25-year-old Jabiru Hassan and 23-year-old Umaru Bello, both residents of Ilela Village in Maradun Local Government Area.
- Weapons and Gear Seized: Military personnel recovered one AK-47 rifle, two rifle magazines, one locally fabricated Dane gun, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 18 Dane-gun cartridges.
- Operational Equipment: Additional items impounded include two Baofeng communication radio sets, a motorcycle, a camouflage vest, two jungle hats, two MP3 players, a mobile phone, and N44,500 in cash.
- Forensic and Intelligence Analysis: Preliminary checks on the seized mobile phone uncovered incriminating photos and video files. Military intelligence teams are conducting forensic analysis to map out the suspects’ networks and potential links to wider terrorist cells across Zamfara State.
The arrests and seized communication gear mark another tactical blow against armed groups operating in the North-West, as military commanders intensify night patrols to restore stability to rural communities across Zamfara State.
