Major transport arteries and commercial hubs across Osun State were largely deserted on Saturday as joint security agencies enforced strict movement restrictions ahead of the governorship election.
Key inter-state corridors, including the Gbongan–Osogbo road, the Ibadan–Ife expressway, and the Akure–Ilesa highway, saw vehicular traffic come to a virtual standstill. Armed security personnel, comprising officers from the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Army, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), established heavy checkpoints at strategic entry points into major towns to enforce the order.
In urban centers such as Osogbo, Ede, Ilesa, and Ile-Ife, main thoroughfares were completely clear of commercial vehicles, motorbikes, and private commuters. Security forces erected roadblocks at major junctions and polling areas to restrict unauthorized movement, prevent electoral violence, and deter unregistered political actors from moving between local government areas.
Movement across the state remains restricted strictly to essential service providers, accredited election observers, journalists, and voters walking to their designated polling units on foot.
