Nigeria’s Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, has led a high-level military delegation on a two-day tour of defence manufacturing establishments in Egypt.
The delegation—which included officials from the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and the Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON)—visited manufacturing facilities owned by Eagle International for Defence Systems in Suez.
Matawalle stated that the visit focused on long-term industrial partnerships rather than immediate procurement, aiming to establish joint manufacturing ventures through DICON to boost local defense production and technology transfer.
The delegation also held bilateral talks with Egypt’s Ministry of Military Production in Cairo to explore setting up an ammunition production line in Nigeria.
The initiative aligns with ongoing efforts under President Bola Tinubu’s administration to reduce reliance on foreign military imports and expand Nigeria’s domestic defence industrial capacity.
