ABUJA — The launch of the latest orientation course for young graduates deployed to Niger State has been delayed following severe storm damage to their training facility, officials have announced.
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) said the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream I programme in the state would be pushed back to a later date while emergency repairs are carried out.
The pause was triggered by a recent windstorm that caused extensive damage to the permanent orientation camp in Paiko, Niger State.
The local state government has launched an ongoing renovation project to repair the facility, but it will not be ready in time for the prospective corps members’ scheduled arrival.
In a statement, Caroline Embu, the NYSC’s director of information and public relations, said management is making “urgent arrangements” to find an alternative venue so training can begin.
“A new commencement date and other relevant details will be communicated to affected prospective corps members in due course,” Ms. Embu said.
The agency apologized for the disruption to the graduates and their families and asked for cooperation while a temporary solution is found.
The scheme, which is mandatory for all Nigerian university and polytechnic graduates under the age of 30, begins with a three-week military-style orientation camp before participants are posted to their primary places of assignment.
