ABUJA, Nigeria — Nigeria’s domestic intelligence agency, the Department of State Services (DSS), has arraigned a man before the Federal High Court in Abuja for allegedly spreading false information about the welfare of military personnel.
Chidiebere Justice Mark, known online as “Justice Crack,” faces a three-count charge related to cybercrime and the circulation of content intended to incite public unrest.
Allegations of ‘Ill Will’
The prosecution told the court that Mr. Mark was arrested by the Nigerian Army over the weekend following the release of a viral video on his X (formerly Twitter) account. The content allegedly claimed that Nigerian soldiers were being provided with inadequate food.
According to the charge sheet, the post was made on April 28, 2026, with the intent to cause “annoyance, ill will, and hatred” toward the authorities. The government argues the video generated widespread negative reactions and was likely to cause a breach of the peace.
The Charges
The defendant has been charged under the following legal frameworks:
- Cybercrimes Act: Knowingly circulating false information via the handle @JusticeCrack.
- Criminal Code (Breach of Peace): Publishing material likely to cause public fear.
- Criminal Code (Derogatory Content): Attempting to commit a felony by publishing content that could incite unrest against the Nigerian Army.
Remanded in Custody
Presiding judge Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ordered that Mr. Mark remain in DSS custody pending further proceedings.
The case has been adjourned until May 25, 2026, for the commencement of the trial and a potential hearing regarding a bail application.
