AFCON 2025: Nigeria cruise past Algeria to set up semi-final with Morocco

Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams were on target as Nigeria eased into the semi-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations with a dominant 2-0 victory over Algeria in Marrakech.

The Super Eagles, runners-up in 2023, remained in control throughout the contest and will now face hosts Morocco in a blockbuster last-four encounter in Rabat on Wednesday.

Clinical second half

After a goalless first period in which Adams missed a clear opening by curling over the bar, Nigeria found their breakthrough just 85 seconds after the restart.

Victor Osimhen continued his fine form at the tournament, ghosting in at the back post to meet Bruno Onyemaechi’s deep cross. The striker headed firmly back across goal to claim his fourth goal of the finals.

The provider then turned playmaker ten minutes later. Osimhen’s clever pass sliced through the Algerian defence to find Akor Adams, who showed great composure to round goalkeeper Luca Zidane and slot into an empty net.
