Nigeria’s Super Eagles launched their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 victory over Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
Goals from debutants George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor brought Eric Chelle’s side back from behind after Madagascar took an early lead, securing all three points for the hosts in their opening Group L fixture.
Madagascar stunned the home crowd early in the first half, taking advantage of a fast counter-attack to beat goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali.
However, Nigeria responded just before the break when Ilenikhena found the net in the first minute of stoppage time to mark his senior international debut with an equalizer.
