Argentine football icon Lionel Messi has underlined his focus on international glory, stating that he would prefer to win another World Cup over an additional Ballon d’Or award.
The forward, who led Argentina to victory in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, shared his career priorities and thoughts on life after football in recent comments.
According to football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who posted the quotes on social media on Wednesday, when directly asked to choose between the two honours, Messi was unequivocal:
“World Cup or another Ballon d’Or? Another World Cup.”
The statement reinforces the 38-year-old’s deep passion for international success, placing collective achievement with the national team above individual accolades.
Messi currently holds the record for the most Ballon d’Or awards, having won the prestigious trophy eight times.
