Akure, Nigeria

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Ondo State has moved to reinforce its collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to ensure secure and transparent electoral processes.

Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) for INEC Ondo State, paid a courtesy visit to the new Commissioner of Police (CP), Adebowale Lawal, at the Police Command Headquarters in Akure earlier today, November 12, 2025.

Reinforcing Electoral Security

The meeting was described as a key step in strengthening the existing partnership between the electoral body and the Ondo State Police Command.

  • INEC Appreciation: Mrs. Babalola expressed gratitude for the “unwavering support” provided by the Police during the last Governorship Election. She also acknowledged the Force’s assistance with the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise across the state.
  • Police Pledge: CP Lawal, who recently took over command, commended INEC’s “steadfast commitment to transparency and professionalism.” He pledged the Command’s continued collaboration.

The CP assured the REC that under his leadership, the Command will work closely with INEC and other security agencies via the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security (ICCES). This committee is crucial for coordinating all security operations to guarantee effective and secure elections in Ondo State.

Mrs. Babalola was accompanied by senior officials from the INEC Ondo State office, including the Administrative Secretary, Mrs. Adenike Tadese, and various Heads of Departments.
