Abuja, Nigeria — The National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) has opened the second edition of its Annual Games in Abuja, with the agency’s leadership urging staff to champion both sportsmanship and innovation.
Khalil Halilu, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, officially declared the 2025 NASENI Games open at the Moshood Abiola Stadium. He stressed that the competition is symbolic of the agency’s broader mission.
“This gathering is not only about sports but about pushing harder, faster, and working together as one NASENI family. We are all members of one movement, building a stronger and more innovative NASENI,” Mr. Halilu said.
He emphasized that the core values driving success in sports—teamwork, discipline, and unity—are the same ones that drive technological breakthroughs within the agency. He encouraged all participating centres and institutes to compete with passion and integrity, reminding them that the true value of the Games lies beyond winning medals.
The Chairman of the NASENI Sports Committee, Bernard Ozigi, echoed the sentiment, noting that the event serves as a platform to foster camaraderie and mutual respect among staff.
The Games, which feature eight indoor and outdoor sports including football, volleyball, and chess, involve teams from all NASENI Institutes, centres, and the headquarters. The opening day saw several football matches, with results including EMDI Akure defeating AMTDI Jalingo 3-0 in the men’s category. The event is scheduled to conclude with a closing ceremony on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
