Abuja, Nigeria — The newly elected President of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Babangida Isah, has unveiled a national agenda focused on transforming the prospects of the country’s vast youth population, estimated at over 120 million.
Speaking at his first press briefing, Mr. Isah promised a leadership anchored on transparency, fairness, and collaboration, marking what he called a “new dawn for youth leadership in Nigeria.”
A Collaborative, Non-Confrontational Approach
Mr. Isah emphasised a shift away from conflict and toward constructive engagement with government, stating: “My administration will not be confrontational but collaborative.”
He outlined the NYCN’s key focus areas as innovation, skill acquisition, entrepreneurship, digital transformation, and job creation. These initiatives, he said, are designed to mobilise young Nigerians to contribute meaningfully to economic growth and align directly with President Bola Tinubu’s ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’.
The NYCN President called on Nigerian youth to set aside political divisions following his election. “The election is over. There are no losers — only the NYCN and Nigeria have won. This is our time to rewrite the story of youth leadership with integrity, inclusiveness, and service,” he declared.
Praise for Government Support
Mr. Isah used the platform to commend senior political figures for their support of youth development:
- He thanked President Tinubu for his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda,’ which he said had “rekindled the faith of young Nigerians in governance.”
- Special recognition was given to the Governor of Kogi State, Ahmed Ododo, whom he praised as a “visionary leader and true mentor.”
- He also acknowledged the contributions of Seyi Tinubu toward youth empowerment and praised other ministers and state governors for their support.
Mr. Isah concluded by urging all young Nigerians to remain united, proactive, and hopeful in the collective pursuit of national progress.
