Nigerian Envoy Urges Abia Diaspora in Spain to Exemplify Hard Work, Unity

VALENCIA, Spain — Nigeria’s ambassador to Spain, Okezie Ikpeazu, has called on Abia State natives living in Valencia to serve as exemplary ambassadors of their homeland by upholding the virtues of integrity, industry, and resilience.

Speaking as the special guest of honour at the 16th anniversary celebration of the Ndi Abia in Diaspora (Valencia Chapter) on Sunday, the envoy reminded members of the Nigerian community that their daily conduct significantly shapes international perceptions of Nigeria. Mr. Ikpeazu, a former governor of Abia State who presented his credentials to King Felipe VI in September, described the diaspora community as one of Nigeria’s most vital assets.”Abians are remarkably enterprising—producing some of the finest tailors and shoemakers in the world—and should take immense pride in their rich heritage and identity,” Mr. Ikpeazu said, urging attendees to maintain strong ties to their roots while integrating positively into Spanish society.

He assured the diaspora community of the embassy’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding the welfare of Nigerians in Spain and fostering closer bilateral and people-to-people ties between both nations.

The event marked a major milestone for the host association. Delivering his address, the Chairman of Ndi Abia in Diaspora Valencia, Endy Okoroafor, praised the resilience of the founding members who established the group 16 years ago to create a support network for Abia families abroad. Mr Okoroafor announced that the organization—previously known as the Abia State Congress in Diaspora—has now secured full formal registration after overcoming past administrative hurdles.Reiterating the traditional Igbo philosophy of Onye Aghala Nwanne Ya (“leave no brother behind”), Mr. Okoroafor stressed the importance of solidarity among members regardless of their local government of origin back home.

The anniversary proceedings featured cultural performances, networking sessions, an award presentation, and the official launch of the association’s annual calendar.
