ABUJA, NIGERIA — Parts of Nigeria’s capital city and neighboring towns face a temporary power shutdown on Saturday as engineers perform critical preventive maintenance on key transmission infrastructure, national grid operator Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) announced on Friday.
The six-hour operational pause will run from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM local time on September 26 at the Katampe 1 Transmission Substation, targeting the Katampe-Gwarinpa 132/33kV Line 2 bay switchgears and supporting equipment.The maintenance work will temporarily prevent the local distributor, Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), from pulling power to supply several densely populated residential neighborhoods and commercial districts across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and neighboring Niger State.
Affected zones include sections of Gwarinpa, Kubwa, Dawaki, Dutse Alhaji, Arab Road, Bwari, Jiwa, Suleja Township, Madalla, Zuba, and surrounding areas, as well as facilities such as Mopol Barracks and the FCT College of Education.
In a statement released from its Abuja headquarters, TCN management explained that routine annual servicing is essential to safeguard long-term equipment stability and prevent catastrophic grid failures.”TCN apologises for any inconvenience this scheduled maintenance will cause electricity consumers in the affected areas,” the company stated, reassuring residents that full supply will resume immediately upon completion of the technical checks.
