Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, retired General Christopher Musa, has praised the ongoing modernisation of Lagos’s Alaba International Market, highlighting its transformation into one of Africa’s leading electronics and technology hubs.
Speaking at an event in Lagos marking the unveiling of new commercial complexes under the “New Face of Alaba” initiative, Gen Musa described the market as a vital engine for economic growth, innovation, and job creation.
He commended the leadership of the International Market Association Electronics (IMAE) and the Lagos State Government for driving the market’s structural evolution and supporting initiatives to curb counterfeit goods.
”Sustainable development can only be achieved through strong partnerships between government, businesses, and citizens,” Gen Musa said, reaffirming the federal government’s commitment to securing commercial hubs and ensuring a safe business environment across the country.
Representing Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Kadri Obafemi Hamzat reiterated the state’s plans to reconstruct key access roads leading to the market to boost trade and ease transport logistics.
The event highlighted decades of collaboration between the market association and the Nigerian military, a relationship originally fostered by Gen Musa early in his military career.
