The incumbent governor of Nigeria’s western Ekiti state, Biodun Oyebanji, has won a second term in office following a landslide election victory. Mr Oyebanji, representing the governing All Progressives Congress (APC), secured 319,224 votes, according to official results released by the electoral body, Inec.
His closest rival, Wole Oluyede of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), trailed far behind with 40,543 votes, while Oluwadare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 12,872 votes.
The decisive victory reinforces the APC’s political dominance in the South-West region.
Supporters of the governor took to the streets to celebrate the result as it became clear he had won by a wide margin across the state’s local government areas.
During his first term, Mr. Oyebanji focused heavily on infrastructure projects, education, and healthcare—policies that analysts say resonated strongly with voters.
